There’s an article in the paper talking about what I’ve been talking about for years now. We need a new Jr. High downtown. Heck, we need new Jr. Highs all over town. I could never figure out how the KHSD keeps building new high schools every other year, but I never hear about any new Jr. Highs. I also hear about new elementary schools popping all over the place. Why no new Jr. Highs? How do these kids fall off the face of the earth after six grade and then magically reappear in twice the size two years later. It’s like they’re all stuffed into a petri dish, stuck in a cupboard and ignored for awhile.
The whole issue came up because a bunch of parents downtown got sick of when they thought of sending their kids to Emerson. I know a lot of them either A) send their kid to private school for Jr. High, B) worry daily about their child’s well being and education at Emerson, or C) move. Seriously, Emerson is scummy.
According to the article, Daniel Ardron has “volunteered at Emerson Middle School for four years, trying to help the school improve” and that, “Ardron said he won’t send his daughter to Emerson in the fall.” (Thanks for not giving us a clue who Daniel Ardron is.) Ardron claims there’s a level of disrespect and apathy among the students, which is kind of understandable considering they’re a bunch of 13 and 14 year-olds stuck in a hell hole. A friend of mine went to that school in the early 80’s and told me it was bad then – I can’t imagine what it’s like now.
Jr. High is a rough stage anyway. I’m pretty sure I was a snotty little bitch to just about everyone (except my friends of course.) (Sorry mom.) There’s just nothing better than having raging hormones and a face full of zits to make a kid fill good about himself.
The downtown parents wanting a Jr. High have suggested the it be added onto the Franklin Elementary school site. I can’t imagine there’d be enough room. My suggestion was the Montgomery World Plaza. Turns out that was a really BAD suggestion cuz I ended up being accused of being racist and as my son pointed, it IS uncomfortably close to Déjà vu. I still think there has to be someplace downtown to build a new Jr. High.
I just hope it’s nowhere near me. Those kids are crazy.
