Eight years is not long enough to grow a brain

Bill Wilsted, the 17 year old who shot and killed 8 year old Danny Adams earlier this month, pled guilty to involuntary man slaughter yesterday and will spend the next 8 years in juvenile prison. Needless to say, Danny’s mother is not pleased. Apparently Bill, “had a history of playing with his father’s guns” and had taken the firearm from a locked gun case and pointed it at the boy before he pulled the trigger. In court he claimed he did not know the gun was loaded. I’m starting to think the gun wasn’t the only thing loaded in that room. How else does a young man, nearly an “adult” in the legal sense, who has been raised with guns in the house, NOT think that the gun was loaded? Or at least check to see before he started with all the pointing and the pulling of the trigger.

The thing that worries me now is that this boy will not be any smarter when he is released from prison as a man. Scary.
