Howdy & Good Bye

So much to blog about, so little time. I haven’t been able to keep up with my blogging and now I’m fixin’ to head out of town again. DD and I are heading to Austin, Texas for the music festival. Yee haw! So, here’s a quick update with what’s up before I go, and I’ll see y’all again next week.

Five teenagers from Centennial High School are in a heap of trouble after beating up another student and video tapeing it. Then, just to add insult to injury they posted the video on myspace. Dang! Girls are a lot meaner now than when I was in school.

The teens are being charged with “torture, dissuading a witness, assault with a deadly weapon, battery, conspiring to commit a crime and false imprisonment. In other words, this was not your typical girl fight. According to KGET, there was as many as twenty teens present at the time of beating, but only four can be seen on the tape. There is no news on how badly the girl was hurt, but Deputy District Attorney Cindy Norris said. “It’s one of the worst assaults I’ve ever seen on videotape.”

One of the girls arrested is named Haylee. It’s kind of hard for me to imagine a girl named Haylee being that fierce, but I guess you just never know.

The Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is working to develop an official motto for our city. The unofficial slogan over the years has been “Sun, Fun, Stay, Play.” The new motto suggested is “Life as it should be.” If it is chosen it would be a motto that would hard to say with a straight face. I think we should stick with “Sun, Fun, Stay, Play” just because it’s so silly and retro. In fact I wish they would bring back the old sign. I hate the new city signs. Did anybody else notice that it looks like a hole in a wall?

Welcome to Bakersfield – it’s a hole in the wall.
