McScaryland

It sounds like the town of McFarland has gone a little crazy lately. A third man has been found murdered in as many weeks. The body of a man living in cardboard box was found Sunday night with a gun shot to his head. Back in January two teenagers were arrested in the death of a mother of five and another man. They appeared to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Gang activity in Kern County has become out of control. Delano is reportedly one of the worst areas because the line of demarcation between the northern gangs and southern gangs runs right through. (Actually, if you think it about it, it’d make more sense if it went through Fresno, but whatever. Making sense isn’t a strong point with gang bangers.)

The scary thing is, the kids who are being brought into these gangs are being taught the activity from family members. It’s kinda hard to fight gang activity when you’re in one. Not that EVERYONE is in one, but I think the majority at least know someone in a gang, and fear repercussions. It’s really sad, because it is precisely this type of violent activity that destroys what would otherwise be a vibrant and thriving community.

My heart goes out to the good people of McFarland.
