Kern County Wonders?

The Bakersfield Californian is asking locals to vote on what we think are “The Seven Wonders of Kern County.” As you can imagine, the picken’s are fairly slim. Among the choices are bar, a big shoe, and a restaurant. I guess it doesn’t take much to wow us. There are some other more remarkable choices, like the California and the Kern River Oilfield, which I consider more of an eyesore than a “wonder” but whatever. And of course there are the obligatory choices, like the statue of Father Graces, the Beale Clock Tower, and the Bakersfield sign. I’m really surprised the Kern River Canyon isn’t one of the choices.

Kern County may be a little short on natural beauty, but we more than make up for it by raising wonderful people.
