BHS has its very own Oil Derrick
I don’t know if this just a local phenomenon or not, but I couldn’t help but notice how all of Bake Town’s High Schools are named after their location. AND… the mascots for these schools are usually a direct reflection of that location.
For example... back in the 80’s the names of the high schools were North, South, East & West. The centrally located school was named Bakersfield. There was another school up in the hills named Highland and another at the bottom of the hills named Foothill. It gets better. In the 90s two more high schools were built. One was out near the ridge route named Ridgeview and the other was built in a snobby Bakersfield suburb dubbed Stockdale. Can you guess what the name of that school is?
In case the location isn’t clear enough, the schools solidified their positions through the choosing of a mascot. Bakersfield High School has the Drillers (yes – as in oil), North High has the Stars, Highland has the Scots and South High has the Rebels. In an effort to offend as few people as possible, I'll leave the West High Vikings and the East High Blades out of this.
Am I the only one who thinks this is funny?
