When you think of Bake Town these are the words that should spring to mind according to a local group called "Greater Bakersfield Vision 2020." In an effort to spice up the city's image and promote economic growth the group recently spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 grand to hire a Boston based research group and learn about consumers attitudes toward Bakersfield. Turns out 42% responded unfavorably. So... what to do? Develop a slick new ad campaign of course! Tossing in another 60+ grand or so, the group came up with a marketing package available online to all those interested in attracting business to Bake Town.
I don't know much (or anything for that matter) about marketing and such, but as a native Fieldian, I can't help but wonder if that money could not have been better spent cleaning up B-Town's unhealthy air in place of its unpopular image.
Just a thought (cough).
