Last spring a pair of Mallards began hanging around my place of employment. Since my window was already wide open to let in the beautiful breeze, I quickly located some crackers and began feeding the ducks. They were so happy they acted as if they had died and gone to duck heaven. Day after day they returned and I came prepared. I purchased a five pound bag of duck feed, thinking that Saltines probably weren’t the best thing for them. The Mallards quickly settled in and my co-workers and I were convinced they were planning to nest. Maybe they did, but we found no evidence. After several weeks, the birds moved on.
So imagine my surprise today when I began walking up the path to my office and spotted Donald and Daisy! They came back! And they were right there by my window waiting to be fed. I asked him how their flight was and they told me all about their trip south.
I can’t wait to see if they return next year.
