A Meeting of the Sweaty Minds

The little old lady who never spoke to her neighbors wasn’t the only person killed by the heat recently. We’ve also lost a few homeless people and a couple of farm workers. Augustine Gudino and Salud Zamudio Rodriguez were found dead near the fields they had been working in two weeks ago. Now Senator Dean Florez, who is trying to pass a measure to help protect the farm workers, wants lawmakers to get a dose of THAT kind of heat. He’s planned a meeting this week in a field near Shafter.

I can just picture a bunch of suits standing around in the middle of a field with the sun beating down on them. I bet they would last about ten minutes before knocking each other over to sign ANYTHING for a bottle of water and some shade.
