Quick News Update

As if Bakersfield residents don’t have enough a negative enough image, it looks like things are about to get a lot worse. According to the news, “Eight Bakersfield residents were arrested in the last few days, accused of taking money from people who seemingly have nothing to lose – the victims of hurricane Katrina.” A ninth was arrested yesterday. Oooo – that’s bad. The thing that really sucks about it is it tarnishes all the hard work the hundreds of other people are doing there. They should make those people go to Mississippi and Louisiana to clean up the mess. That’ll learn ‘em!

This will be the last year for the Bakersfield Business Conference, and it looks as if it is going to go out with a bang. Many people were not happy to see the scheduled appearance of William Bennett at this year’s conference. He’s comments about race and abortion have pretty much gone over like a turd in a punch bowl, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to the crowds of protestors promising to make the last business conference a very memorable one.

The third trial for Bruce Sons started last week and it looks as if this trial is going to be quite different than the second, which, of course, was very different from the first. Hmmm… This time the criminologist (who coincidentally was hired by the D.A.) has changed his story (gasp!) in favor of the prosecution. This time around he said he thinks Maxwell shot three times before he was hit by Sons. In the past he speculated that it was more like seven times. Either way, it looks like he was being shot at, so he fired back. Isn’t that what they call “self defense?”
