It's a sick, sad world.

A cat was found tortured and killed in south Bakersfield recently. Psychologists said that parents should be worried about their children’s safety because a person who capable of that type of cruelty may be likely to move on to humans. The cat was found by an 11 year old girl on her way to school. She quickly returned home crying. How awful. That would give me nightmares too.

A few years ago my son spotted a lady carrying a puppy down Oleander towards the park. She stopped and asked him if he would like to keep the puppy. When Paul brought me outside to talk to the lady she explained that she had seen some kids in the neighborhood trying to set the pup on fire. They had poured lighter fluid in it and were using matches to burn her ears. The lady chased the boys away and saved the pup, but she said she could not keep it. There was no way I could say no to that pitiful little puppy. Poor thing had singe marks all over her ears. After an over night stay with the vet and about $300 she was good as new.

It is disturbing to see children being so cruel and violent. Say what you want about society – I can’t help but think that type of behavior is learned at home.
