A Survey

George Russell Weller, the 86 year old man who drove his car across a crowd of people at the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market was sentenced today. Weller will be 90 in a couple of weeks and in poor health, so the Judge decided to sentence him to probation. Weller, who it is believed mistook the gas pedal for the brake, killed 10 people and injured 68 others. He was convicted of 10 counts of vehicular manslaughter and the judge conceded that he deserved to go jail. In fact, he said Weller, “has never once expressed in court any remorse for his actions. I will never understand his stubborn and bullheaded refusal to accept responsibility to put this matter to rest for everyone, including himself.” Nevertheless the judge concluded that sentencing the elderly man to prison, “would not do anybody any good.”
