Kern County Sheriff Mack Wimbish sprung his buddy from jail last Saturday, and according to The Californian, he is unapologetic about it. Wimbish pointed out that what he did is not against the law, and that “it’s a common practice for law enforcement agencies to release drunken-driving suspects into the custody of a responsible adult.” (Especially if that adult happens to be the Sheriff.) This is all in spite of the fact that the guy has had three prior DUI charges.
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that the dude also acted as assistant treasurer in Wimbish’s first campaign and that he donated a substantial amount of his own money.
