Dead Men Walking

The fifth person in as many days was killed early this morning in central Bakersfield. When officers arrived at an apartment complex on Brundage Lane around 1:00 a.m. they found 21 year old Marcus Dupree Marshall dead from apparent gunshot wounds. So far they haven’t released anymore information other than that they are asking the public to contact the Secret Witness Hotline if they know anything.

Last Sunday Garlund Harris was killed in Wayside Park. On Monday William Wandick was shot to death and found lying in the street near KMC. Waldo Rivera, 21, was also killed Sunday; stabbed to death and found lying in the road. And of course, we all know about Edward Perosa and what happened to him.

The violence in this city has gotten seriously out of control. Am I crazy, or are most of the people dying 20 something year old males? What’s up with that? I mean, I know their young and all pumped full of testosterone, but when did it become the norm to choose to stab someone to resolve a conflict?

KMC announced yesterday that they are planning on hiring 50 new nurses. It looks to me like they’re going to need more.
